Glass Horse STUDIO

Exploring light and color while immortalizing moments of history, stained glass is an art medium unlike any other. For centuries, stained glass has been a way to bring hope, power and education through the transcending experience of gazing in front of windows adorned with colored and painted glass. For over 40 years, Glass Horse Studio has made custom windows, panels, trophies, lamps, restorations and other stained glass works of art, using the same techniques and tools the stained glass masters of centuries ago used to make the glass that inspires us today.

Our Journey

  • Restoration Windows

Glass Horse Studio is a mother and daughter team from Northern New Jersey, carrying on the tradition of creating stained glass using the same techniques as those in the 12th and 13th centuries. With over 40 years of experience creating custom work and restoring some of the oldest stained glass in the United States, our work is in private and public collections, museums, galleries internationally, and one sample of our restoration work can be seen at the Riverside Church in New York City.

  • Heraldry

With a lead contamination incident that led to the loss of our studio and many materials and photographs of previous work, Glass Horse Studio has prevailed and explores the opportunities of what is possible through stained glass. Focusing on both the rich history of stained glass and the deep connections between horses and humans, much of our current work and future projects focuses the impact horses have on all aspects of human life across the globe throughout time.

  • Lamps

It all begins with an idea, and from there working on the design, selecting the one of a kind glass and working on enhancing the creative design and process to develop a stained glass window that will last for centuries, and inspiring generations to come.

Galloping Through Time In Glass

Multifaceted Traveling Stained Glass Exhibit
 Year of Glass 2022

This exhibit, in theme with the United Nation’s designation of the year 2022 as the official Year of Glass, will feature stained glass and glass sculptures. Exploring the cultural impact horses have had on human civilization through peace, innovation, migration and influence in everyday life throughout the centuries, and experiencing the world of glass as a means for education and a historic art form, this exhibit will be traveling to various art and equine centers, museums, events and festivals in North America and in Europe (2023). The horse symbolizes freedom, courage, independence, confidence and has played a significant role in positivity impacting cultures across the world in their development, as well as bringing peace to communities. Highlighting the rich and fascinating world of glass while showing the transformation of human society and culture is showcased in one of humanity’s most enlightening art forms.

Additionally, this exhibit would also promote the UN's 2030 goals for Sustainable Development as several of our main artworks are made entirely out of recycled glass, and each panel has large sections of (or is made entirely out of) recycled glass materials from our own production of recycled glass.

In addition to our travelling exhibit, we will also be hosting several talks and lectures on stained glass, it’s history and impact on the world, and glass sustainability at select locations. In the spring of 2023, we will be hosting a talk and exhibit at the Riverside Church in New York City, exploring the history of stained glass and discussing the glass at Riverside itself. Wine & Cheese refreshments, with dates to be determined.
